FIRST WEEK OF MAY 2012
The first week of May 2012, Judy and I found ourselves writing new year’s resolutions in Paris.
It was in Paris, several years earlier (Le Bon Marche, to be exact,) where we found a low-quality, USA mass-market brand representing America surrounded by epicurean delicacies from around the world. As Americans, it was embarrassing to say the least.
JUDY AND I RETURNED TO LA
Judy and I returned to LA, sold our house, bought a huge tunnel oven designed a box & began baking cookies. For 18 months we lived in our P.A.V., “Personal Adventure Vehicle” (Elvis Presley 1952 bus) in the parking lot of our bakery, while we learned how to bake perfect cookies and navigate through adversity.
In spite of our decidedly unconventional approach, (and everyone thinking we were crazy,) that’s what we did, and still do.
The greatest challenge to this day is transitioning our idealistic enterprise into becoming self-supporting, so it can survive beyond our years.

We knew people loved our cookies however, I had survived a rare disease and was already older than my father when he died. So, in Paris, few nights before returning to LA, we considered our options over crepes and a bottle of Grand Marnier.
Could I begin a new career at an age when most people wind down and retire?
Judy is fearless, her only question was: “What would I enjoy?” That was easy: Propagating happiness through our cookies, for as long as possible!
It has not been easy. In Judy’s words: “We have a cookie karma going, and sometimes it’s a hell of a struggle.” For us it’s simple if our cookies make you smile, we’ve done a good job.
